Partial Zero Emission Vehicle [PZEV]
Are you considering buying the cleanest, greenest car with the lowest-polluting, fuel-efficient model available? I was able to find several certified advanced technology partial zero emissions vehicles (AT-PZEV). http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-11297_7-6729563-6.html
The most efficient vehicles on the planet create 90% fewer emissions. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) puts out a list of the 12 "greenest cars” yearly. These vehicles are rated on tailpipe emissions, gas mileage, and curb weight. See 2007 Market Trends: http://www.greenercars.org/highlights_mkttrends.htm
Hybrids have the ability to run on either its 500-volt battery pack or its 1.5-liter gasoline engine. Hybrids save gas by capturing energy, from braking and coasting, which would otherwise be wasted. That energy is converted to electricity and used to power the car, providing 50 percent more miles per gallon while cutting pollution by a third. Hybrid Electric Vehicle - According to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), half the cars in the U.S. are driven just 25 miles a day or less. "A plug-in vehicle with even a 20-mile range could reduce petroleum fuel consumption by about 60 percent," says Bob Graham, Manager of EPRI's Electric Transmission program. What are our choices for alternate fuel?
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is considered to be an environmentally "clean" alternative to gasoline (petroleum) and conforms to standards for zero evaporative emissions.
Biodiesel (mono alkyl esters) is a cleaner-burning diesel fuel made from natural, renewable sources such as vegetable oils. The exhaust emissions of sulphur oxides and sulphates (major components of acid rain) from biodiesel are essentially eliminated compared to diesel.
